Nigeria: A Legislative Resolution on Jonathan's Role

Summary
Following a series of resolutions passed Feb. 9 by both chambers of Nigeria's National Assembly, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan will henceforth be recognized by the legislature as the acting president of Nigeria. Nevertheless, Jonathan still does not possess official executive authority. Essentially, the situation has devolved into a game of semantics, and the fact remains that Yaradua has yet to temporarily relinquish power. And while there are three possible scenarios in which this could happen, none is likely to occur any time soon.
