Summary

The question of just how vulnerable nuclear facilities are to terrorist attack came to the forefront after the Feb. 4 suicide bombing in Dimona, Israel, even though that attack did not target Israel's nuclear facility itself. Though highly symbolic, nuclear facilities are very tough to breach, making significant damage from such an attack unlikely. Even so, an attack against a nuclear facility could cause a major disruption in energy production — and subsequent heavy psychological and political fallout.
