Pakistan: All the President's Men
Oct 4, 2004 | 23:59 GMT
Summary
The imminent retirement of Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's two immediate military subordinates has led to a major reshuffling of the country's top brass. In this round of appointments and promotions, Musharraf has named senior officers who will back him if he decides to remain a military chief — or help ease him into a civilian presidency if and when he decides to do so. Regardless of whether he stays in the military, this reshuffle will ensure Islamabad's continued support of Washington's war against al Qaeda and its jihadist allies.
