Pakistan Bombing: Shifting the Focus
May 27, 2005 | 19:28 GMT
Summary
A May 27 suicide bombing at a shrine in the Pakistani capital left about 20 people dead and scores wounded. Given the modus operandi and the ongoing anti-jihadist operations in the country, the attack likely was pulled off by Pakistani sectarian militant groups affiliated with al Qaeda. In the past, these extremist groups have targeted the minority Shia, but now appear to have shifted their focus to the Barelvi (Sufi) community.
