PNA: Hamas' Plans to Counter International Pressure
Feb 15, 2006 | 02:39 GMT
Summary
Despite threats from Israel and the West to cut off funds to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) once a Hamas-led PNA takes office, Hamas and Fatah officials are scheduled to convene Feb. 18 to form a new government. As Israel cautiously inches toward the inevitability of a Hamas-dominated Palestinian government, the international community's eyes remain fixated on the militant Islamist movement as it makes its official debut in the political arena. Hamas, meanwhile, is pushing ahead with a plan whereby it hopes to avoid buckling under international demands. Hamas' success depends on intra-Palestinian cooperation.
