Republican Guard Enters the Fray

The United States has reached the main line of Iraqi defense to the south of Baghdad. The battle to date raises some questions about U.S. assumptions and strategy. Iraqi troops are not surrendering en masse, and they remain capable of organized resistance and maneuver.
