The Rising Influence of Germany's Green Party

Summary

The German Green Party's victories in recent state elections have separated it from other, minor German parties and put it in direct competition with the historically dominant parties in the country. This rise in influence, coupled with Germany's status as Europe's largest economy and most important political actor, has led some to question what impact the Greens will have on Germany's — and thus, Europe's — direction. However, a Green-influenced government will have only limited implications for Germany's international standing, altering some of the country's stances and tactics without drastically changing its core strategies.
