Russia: Abramovich Shows Himself the Door
Aug 25, 2003 | 21:09 GMT
Summary
Russia's second most powerful oligarch, Roman Abramovich, is selling his stakes in the bulk of his Russian corporate empire and leaving the country for England. He will be the first oligarch to leave Russia without the cloud of threat or shame, leaving behind a power vacuum at the top of the Yeltsin "Family." Abramovich's successor will face the emergence of a new Russia that will have implications for all players — but most of all for President Vladimir Putin.
