Russia and Azerbaijan: An Obstacle to the U.S. in the Caucasus?

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev traveled to Russia on Aug. 9 to meet with his counterpart, Dmitri Medvedev. Russia and Azerbaijan are using the meeting to remind the United States of their close ties amid increasing tension between Washington and Moscow and increasing U.S. interest in Azerbaijani energy.
