Russia, Iran: Air Defense, the New Bushehr?

Rumors began to surface Dec. 26 about the delivery of a Russian strategic air defense system to Iran. Moscow's reasons to push through this delivery now appear to have more to do with the United States than with Iran — the move both complicates the Pentagon's contingency planning for an air campaign against Iran and boosts Tehran's confidence, potentially threatening a U.S.-Iranian rapprochement.
