Summary
Speaking at his slain brother's funeral, Chechen warlord Sulim Yamadayev on Sept. 26 vowed revenge against rival Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov after Ramadan ends. With Chechnya on the verge of going up in flames, the Kremlin has to move fast if it is to clamp down on what could turn out to be another full-blown Chechen war. The prospect of Russia becoming tied down at home with a Chechen insurgency is most appealing to the United States and its allies, however.
