Serbia: Autonomy for Vojvodina

Summary

The parliament of Vojvodina, Serbia's northernmost province, ceremonially adopted the statute of autonomy Dec. 14. The province, which has a large Hungarian minority, will remain an integral part of Serbia but regain some elements of autonomy that were lost in 1990. By granting Vojvodina autonomy, Serbian President Boris Tadic hopes to ease his own country's accession to the European Union.
