Summary
Somalian Islamist militant group al Shabaab has not escaped the United States' notice. U.S. forces are likely to get more involved in Somalia, in part to curb al Shabaab's activities. The militant group is likely to fade away over time, but without a strong central government in Somalia, al Shabaab could well end up thriving and creating serious security problems in the Horn of Africa.
