Somalia: Yusuf and Adan's Tenuous Accord

Transitional Somalian President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed and Speaker of Parliament Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan on Jan. 5 signed an agreement in Aden, Yemen, to put aside their differences and work toward uniting Somalia. The agreement did not include the anticipated stipulations about moving government institutions to Mogadishu — which indicates neither side has the political capital to take control of the government right now. The upcoming opening of parliament will mark a critical point in Yusuf and Adan's attempts to move to the top of Somalia's political heap.
