South Africa: A Smooth Transition, But Trouble Ahead

South African President Thabo Mbeki has appointed Minister of Energy and Minerals Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka deputy president, replacing sacked deputy president Jacob Zuma. Several sectors of South African society have reacted positively to Mlambo-Ngcuka's appointment, but the road ahead for both Mlambo-Ngcuka and the ruling African National Congress will be rough.
