Summary
Labor disputes and opposition activity in South Africa stand little chance of unseating the ruling African National Congress on May 7, when the country holds general elections. Most opposition parties, including those focused solely on labor issues, are single-issue parties, and as such they have a hard time garnering widespread support among the country's various constituencies. The African National Congress has no such problem; it has prevailed in every election since 1994, a winning streak owed partly to its relatively centrist economic platform.
