Summary
South Korean naval special operations forces on Jan. 21 retook the Samho Jewelry, a South Korean cargo ship that had been hijacked by Somali pirates Jan. 15. Tactically, the operation follows a trend that emerged in 2010 of foreign naval forces taking a more aggressive approach toward interdicting pirate hijackings. Strategically, this does little to deter piracy, but it does send a strong message to South Korea's aggressors about the country's naval prowess.
