Syria: Setting the Stage for Upset in Lebanon
Mar 30, 2005 | 01:52 GMT
Summary
Lebanese Prime Minister Omar Karami has revealed his intent to resign a second time after failing to form a unified national government. This is yet another political ploy by Syria and its surrogates in Lebanon to delay elections and keep Beirut under Syria's influence. However obvious this game might be, the Lebanese opposition's options are dwindling by the day. As a result, it could be left with no choice but to invite foreign intervention — a move that could further factionalize Lebanon's sectarian groups.
