Summary
Taiwanese Vice President-elect Vincent Siew led a delegation to southern China for what will be the first meeting between representatives of the island's incoming government and Beijing. Taiwanese President-elect Ma Ying-jeou, who ran on a pro-Beijing platform, has taken care to maintain his distance from Beijing ever since winning the election as he demonstrates to Taiwan that his role is to protect Taiwanese interests only.
