Two Attacks Fail in Yemen
Sep 15, 2006 | 14:00 GMT
Summary
Yemen on Sept. 15 foiled two attacks against oil facilities by suspected Islamist militants. Coming on the heels of al Qaeda videos calling for attacks in the Gulf — especially against energy-related targets — and the fact that Yemen is known to have a jihadist presence, the attacks were likely ordered by the top leadership of the global jihadist movement. The location and the fact that the attacks were foiled shows weakness on the part of al Qaeda; however, there may be other attacks in the pipeline.
