Summary

The Aug. 30 conference to choose the European Union's new representatives will be the United Kingdom's latest opportunity in its ongoing struggle to shape the union to fit with its foreign policy. The choice of Jean-Claude Juncker as president of the European Commission in June gave fuel to the fire of Euroskepticism within the United Kingdom. That, along with the current weakness within Europe, will drive the United Kingdom into a renegotiation of its relationship with the Continent over the coming months.
