Ukraine: Kiev's Forces Make Progress but Remain Spread Thin

Summary

While much international attention has been focused on the Russian humanitarian convoy headed for areas of eastern Ukraine that are held by separatist militants, the situation on the battlefield has continued to evolve. The Ukrainian government's "anti-terrorist operation" has continued to push ahead, and while it has made significant progress in surrounding the separatist stronghold of Luhansk over the past week, Kiev's attempts to cut off supply lines running into the city of Donetsk are showing signs of a potential breakdown.

Government troops are moving to cut off Luhansk and Donetsk but have found it difficult to isolate separatist forces from support and reinforcements....
