Ukraine: Yanukovich Leaves Yushchenko Few Options
Sep 16, 2006 | 03:22 GMT
Summary
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko met with Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich on Sept. 15, saying afterward that Yanukovich's Sept. 14 statements about Ukraine not being ready for NATO accession are troubling. The alliance of Yanukovich's Party of Regions, the Socialists and the Communists has not been able to negotiate a coalition agreement with Yushchenko's Our Ukraine. Yushchenko must now make a choice: Either live with surrendering some control of the foreign policy to Yanukovich, or dismiss Ukraine's government and take his chances with new elections.
