Summary

The runoff election Feb. 7 that brought pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovich to power marked the end of Ukraine's Orange Revolution. It also marked the end of many political careers in Kiev as loyalists to the outgoing government of Viktor Yushchenko began looking for new jobs or protection. Following are profiles of some of the big "losers" in this transition, all having occupied key positions of power in Kiev — and all considered forces to be dealt with as Yanukovich and the Kremlin solidify their power in Ukraine.
