U.S., Brazil: Dinner and a Dialogue on Trade Issues

U.S. President Donald Trump and his Brazilian counterpart, Michel Temer, are scheduled to meet on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly to focus on trade issues between their countries, including Brazil's Aug. 23 decision to impose a 20 percent tariff on U.S. ethanol. Likely part of that discussion will be a recent U.S. non-tariff barrier on Brazilian beef and the open skies airline agreement, which would have lifted restrictions on flights between the two countries, making travel easier. That agreement, signed in 2011, never has been fully implemented because of opposition from Brazilian airlines and labor unions....
