U.S.: Deepwater Spill and the Status of Shipping

Summary

Oil continues to leak from the site of the April explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon rig in the Gulf of Mexico, and the ever-expanding oil slick is moving toward a critical shipping entrance to the lower Mississippi River. However, despite fears that the spill would affect trade in the Gulf region, the impact on shipping appears to be limited.

While an oil leak resulting from an April rig explosion has still not been plugged, the impact on U.S. shipping appears limited....
