The U.S. Navy's P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft, one of which landed Aug. 12 in the Seychelles for a one-day visit, is a key instrument for counterpiracy operations off the coast of Somalia. Such operations have become more challenging as pirates have increased their operational area by moving farther south in the Indian Ocean.
