Who Is To Blame for Colombia's Car Bombings?
Jun 10, 2004 | 14:05 GMT
Summary
Car bomb attacks in the center of two of Colombia's largest cities — Cali and Medellín — occurred over a 48-hour period in recent days. Although STRATFOR believes that the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia group is most likely responsible, Colombian police have blamed the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). If the FARC — which traditionally operates in rural areas and occasionally in Bogota — is found responsible, these new attacks could signify advancement in its technical capabilities and its reach, although perhaps not the beginning of a sustained campaign of urban violence.
