Emily Hawthorne

Emily Hawthorne was a Senior Middle East and North Africa Analyst at RANE, where she covered political, economic, social and security dynamics across the region's twenty countries. Emily has a bachelor's degree in French and Arabic and a master's degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, where she focused on the political economy of the MENA region and conducted original research on Islamic finance. As a former Boren scholar, Emily also studied at the University of Alexandria in Egypt. She is fluent in Arabic and has lived in Morocco, France, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.
