China: Beijing Objects After Vietnam Invites Indian Investment In The South China Sea

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang has objected to a recent statement from Vietnam inviting Indian investment in the South China Sea, calling it an excuse to infringe on China's rights in the region, The Economic Times reported Jan. 11. The statement was a response to a recent interview with Vietnam's Ambassador to India Ton Sinh Thanh, who said his country would welcome Indian investment into oil and natural gas in the region. Vietnam and India have recently increased their ties and security cooperation in the South China Sea to counter Chinese influence in the Indo-Pacific
