China: Beijing Plans To Build 20 Satellites, According To Report

China in 2013 plans to build 20 satellites, of which three quarters will be used for direct or indirect military purposes, Voice of Russia reported Jan. 18. If accomplished, China, which has one-fifth of the world's total satellites in orbit, will surpass the United States and Russia, the report said. A Russian analyst said that China is working on assembling a nuclear submarine fleet and that a satellite system could be used for navigation. China's accelerating military modernization will do much to shape events in East Asia in 2013.
