Egypt: Thousands Protest In Port Said

Thousands protested in Port Said on Feb. 17, demanding justice for protesters killed in late January during clashes with police, witnesses said, AFP reported. Although the protests caused government offices, factories, banks and schools in the city to shut down, traffic through the Suez Canal has continued unimpeded, canal officials said. Though Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi declared a 30-day state of emergency for cities near the Suez Canal, including Port Said, protesters have defied his security measures and many riots in the region have turned deadly.
