Eritrea: Coup Attempt Reportedly Over

Eritrea's government said Jan. 22 that what it called a mutiny is finished, with opposition sites saying that disagreements have been settled, AFP reported, citing a spokesperson for President Isayas Afewerki. Saleh Osman, purportedly the commander of some 100 rebel soldiers, agreed to surrender, opposition website Awate.com reported. The government accepted Osman's terms, Awate said, offering no further details on what may happen next. If a coup took place, Afewerki's poor health likely triggered it.
