Iceland: Elections Return Center-Right Parties To Power

1 MIN READApr 28, 2013 | 12:01 GMT

Iceland's center-right Independence Party and Progressive Party have each won 19 seats in the country's 63-seat Parliament, preliminary election results showed April 28, AP reported. The parties will likely form a coalition government, returning the country to conservative rule. The new government's main challenges will be to dismantle capital controls that have been in place for nearly five years and keep a certain distance from the European Union while avoiding outright isolation.
