Israel, Jordan: Jerusalem Police Arrest 15 Palestinians After Scuffle at Temple Mount

What Happened: Jerusalem police have arrested 15 Palestinians who forced their way into the Temple Mount, also known as Al Haram Al Sharif, The Jerusalem Post reported Feb. 20.

Why It Matters: The incident highlights growing tensions over the area as local Palestinian groups have long pushed for greater access to all of the holy site.

Background: Security in East Jerusalem is administered through a complex agreement between Israeli security forces, Jerusalem police, as well as Jordanian and Palestinian forces. The closure of parts of the Temple Mount complex, which is considered a holy site in Islam, Judaism and Christianity, could trigger unrest between worshippers and local administrative forces.
