Kyrgyzstan: Batken Region Governor Resigns

Aytibay Tagayev, governor of the southern Kyrgyz region of Batken resigned following talks with opposition representatives, AKIpress reported April 8. Tagayev told opposition representatives that stability and unity of the region's residents were more important to him than his post, the press service of the regional state administration said. People gathered at the central square to hold a congress and elect the region's new leadership, the press service stated, adding that the sociopolitical situation in the region is stable.
