Pakistan: Foreign Minister Disqualified From Parliament

1 MIN READApr 26, 2018 | 15:03 GMT

The Islamabad High Court disqualified Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif as a member of parliament under Article 62(1)(f) of Pakistan's Constitution for failing to disclose employment with a United Arab Emirates company and a monthly salary, Dawn reported April 26. Earlier this month, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was disqualified from ever holding public office or contesting elections. Sharif and Asif's disqualifications deal a blow to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party, ahead of scheduled general elections in July, and will likely affect the cohesion of the party.
