Pakistan: Police Prevent Protest March From Reaching Line of Control in Kashmir

What Happened: Police in Pakistani-controlled Kashmir on Oct. 6 prevented thousands of protesters from crossing the Line of Control into Indian-controlled territory, Voice of America reported.

Why It Matters: Although there haven't been any significant outbreaks of violence following the Indian government's decision to revoke the autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir, protests in the region point toward ongoing volatility.

Background: The Indian government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Aug. 5 that it was revoking the autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir, a disputed territory with Pakistan, which Islamabad claims full control over.
