Pakistan: Supreme Court Ruling Bans Former Prime Minister From Ever Holding Office

1 MIN READApr 13, 2018 | 13:45 GMT

Pakistan's Supreme Court ruled on April 13 that any person proved to be dishonest or not righteous will be barred from politics or holding any public office for life, disqualifying former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from ever holding public office or contesting elections, The Hindu daily newspaper reported. The Supreme Court disqualified Sharif in July 2017 over undeclared assets. The ban comes three months ahead of Pakistan's national elections in July and will likely affect the cohesion of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party.
