Russia: Hundreds Of Thousands Sign Petition Protesting Food Ban

More than 350,000 Russians have signed an online petition protesting the mass destruction of food imports that were banned by the Kremlin in response to Western sanctions over Ukraine, Channel News Asia reported Aug. 13. At least 500 tones of food have been confiscated and destroyed since Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the order. A Kremlin spokesman dismissed the online petition, citing lack of verification for the signatures. If the Kremlin continues with its crackdown, protests will expand.
