The Hague-based Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) issued a press release on April 10 stating that it is deploying a fact-finding mission team to Douma to determine the facts surrounding recent allegations that a chemical weapons attack occurred there on April 7. The OPCW technical secretariat has asked Syria to prepare for the deployment, which coincided with requests from Syria and Russia to investigate the alleged chemical weapons attack. U.S. President Donald Trump, who had been contemplating a withdrawal of troops from Syria, is now considering possible retaliatory action against the attack.
