Turkey: Police Break Up 2 Overnight Protest Marches

Turkish police clashed with roughly 3,000 people in Ankara's Kizilay neighborhood and a group of about 5,000 people attempting to march to Kizilay on the night of June 8, NTV reported June 9. The police used tear gas and water cannons to break up the crowds. Though Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan appears to have a handle on the current protests, which have gone on for more than a week, he will likely face growing political challenges over the longer term.
