Turkey: Unions To Strike Over Coal Mine Disaster

Major Turkish unions will stage a one-day strike May 15 to protest labor conditions that they said led to the death of 245 workers in a coal mine explosion in Soma, Manisa province, the secretary-general of the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions of Turkey said May 14, Anatolia news agency reported. Participants will include the Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions, the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects and the Turkish Medical Association.
