U.K.: Corbyn Willing to Do 'Everything Necessary' to Prevent No-Deal Brexit

What Happened: British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said Aug. 19 that he was ready to do "everything necessary" to prevent a no-deal Brexit, including submitting a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Boris Johnson, The Evening Standard reported Aug. 19.

Why It Matters: Corbyn, who has already been reaching out to other opposition parties to gain support for a no-confidence motion against Johnson, has promised to form a short-term government to ask the European Union to delay Brexit and organize a general election.

Background: Johnson has pledged to withdraw the United Kingdom from the European Union on Oct. 31, even if it means leaving the bloc without a deal.
