U.S.: Trump Announces Rollback Of Warming Ties With Cuba

1 MIN READJun 15, 2017 | 21:18 GMT

U.S. President Donald Trump plans to announce on June 15 the reinstatement of a ban on tourist travel to Cuba, as well as the prohibition of financial transactions with companies controlled by the Cuban military, Politico reported, citing a draft of the statement. Trump also reportedly plans to reiterate the importance of the United States' 56-year trade embargo against the island nation. Based on a strict interpretation of the directive, Americans will not be able to conduct business with a vast share of Cuba's companies, including many of its hotels, since the Cuban military has a hand in much of the country's economy. The measure marks a departure from the normalization of U.S.-Cuba ties that began under former U.S. President Barack Obama.
