Escalating Houthi Attacks Force Saudi Arabia To Shift Its Strategy
Saudi Arabia will seek to halt the Houthis' Red Sea attacks through a combination of diplomacy and limited military action, but if these efforts fail, it may escalate to significant ground operations in Yemen, which would risk exposing the kingdom to Iranian strikes and triggering a renewed military quagmire. This escalation follows Saudi Arabia's July 31 announcement that it had formed a 14-member maritime coalition to break the Houthis' newly launched blockade in the Red Sea. It also comes after Yemeni sources cited in a July 30 Guardian report indicated that Saudi Arabia was massing allied fighters for a potential ground offensive against the Houthis.
